Local gov support for sport and IT

What is the future of sport technology? How can regions support sport with IT? How can sport brands use IT? Can sport promote regions and how? These and many more questions arose in the conversation over “Sport pearls of the voivodeship” on the European Economic Forum in Łódź. The debate with Gold Medalist Tokyo 2021 Kajten Duszyński, UFC fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Konrad Piechocki from PGE Skra Bełchatów took place in Łódź in October 2021.

“There is a trend that sport inflastructre have built-in systems for recording events. So amateurs can play, live stream their game, and have a simple post game analysis. Therefore, people are more willing to play and share the experience with friends”  said our CEO Łukasz Gąsiorowski. This is the idea behind our R&D project, SPARK.AI, which is a fully automated AI tool we have been working on for a year now. It is based on collected data, video tracking, video analysis and insights, reachable from Smartphone and Sport Cameras. It uses Optical Based Tracking System – self-learning deep neural networks that give a fully automated way of obtaining statistics from a match recording. The system can be used by clubs, coaches, players, scouts and media, from lower leagues to professional clubs.

The debate moved on to the topic of databases. How important for sport professionals is to have a strong SM account and how can sport clubs benefit from an integrated, detailed database. Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who has around 50k followers on her Instagram account, said she was obligated by UFC to create one when signing up a deal. Now she can benefit from it by running sponsored campaigns. Łukasz gave the example of Widzew Łódź sportclub who recently was able to auction the tickets for their special match for around 140k PLN thanks to the fanbase they have. The big, structured database is not the objective on its own, but more a tool for marketing. With database sport clubs can understand their fans more, can create dedicated, personalised communication. Later, they can sell them new products directly. Last but not least, they can use it to attract new sponsors for the club.
